Dec 25, 2013

2013 was a very good year for Samsung, The Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 and the long anticipated - the Galaxy Gear got a warm welcome from every Android enthusiast, but how can Samsung take it to the next level in 2014?

GALAXY S5

Samsung is prepping their high-end S flagship with a 5.25-inch quad HD (2,560 x 1,440) display and an integrated iris scanner that will offer enhanced security. These key specs will both be firsts for Samsung, and likely for the industry, when the handset is unveiled this coming February at the annual Mobile World Congress trade show.

Beyond the stunning new display and a possible integrated eye scanner, Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy S5 is expected to feature a new 64-bit eight-core Exynos processor or a quad-core Snapdragon processor (Could be the new 808) depending on the device model, a 16-MP camera with new technology that improves low-light photo quality, 3GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. The device is also expected to come in both metallic and plastic body variants.

GALAXY Note 4

The next generation of the beloved phablet is going to inherit most of it's hardware from the Galaxy S5 but with a slightly tuned up processor, It will also feature the new 2K QHD display as well as the iris scanner and will come equipped with 4GB of RAM, a 16-MP camera and the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4 installed. Like other Samsung devices, the processor will likely vary by market with Snapdragon 800 -or 805- and 64-bit Exynos processors all believed to be candidates

Most importantly, the screen size is definitely going to follow suite of the Galaxy Note line and pack what can I only assume to be a 6-inch display, Battery wise we're expecting Samsung to go crazy on this one and include a smashing 5800 mAh battery. I have no clue how Samsung is planning to upgrade the S-Pen nor what they're going to do with the design but it's likely to share the inspiration of the Galaxy S5.

GALAXY Gear

Samsung has officially started a production line for flexible AMOLED screens -on a small scale- to meet the low demand on their experimental device; the Galaxy Round, but flexible displays can go much much further than this, The Galaxy Gear was a great addition to the Galaxy family and regardless of what some might say, it's not a bad start for the smartwatch market and we should be expecting these two to be very related very soon, could be 2014 or 2015 but anyhow the next generation of the Galaxy Gear is definitely coming in 2014, personally I highly doubt it that it will be introduced at CES 2013, It's most likely to be unveiled by the fourth quarter of 2014, But is there space to improve? Of course! 2013 is just the beginning, with fixable screens and batteries on the way, there is still quite a huge space to develop, software and hardware wise.

The Galaxy Gear saw it's first custom ROM, shortly after launch and the thing about Android society is that it's never resilient towards upgrades and gaining more control, something that "other" companies lack, Most of the features that are embedded into the Android stock OS at the moment started the same way and climbed their way to become part of the system, and so, we should expect a smartwatch that does more and more with the goodies Samsung will provide the next generation of Galaxy Gear with, Bigger battery and more power efficient processor are expected in the change log as well as a new design.

GALAXY Round

Big Sammy isn't exactly pushing the Galaxy Round to the market, they are fishing for opinions and also to make a statement before some rotten Apple comes waving a patent lawsuit, The next generation of the Galaxy Round is gonna be a lot different, the technology has evolved a lot in the past year so imagine what the finished product is gonna be capable of doing -especially with other competitors like LG experimenting with their own fixable displays-, It sure is going to be very interesting to see what Samsung is going to do with their -literally- Round device.

GALAXY Note Pro

2014 is going to be a big year, literally! We're talking 12.2 inch 4K display, 8-MP camera, 3GB of RAM and Exynos 6 processor, This new shiny device is going to be a first for Samsung and it's expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2013

These are my predictions of what's coming from Samsung in the next year, What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below :)
