While the Galaxy S3 has been confirmed to get the Jelly Bean Update, I don't like to deliver Bad News for Galaxy S II users, but I have to forward the info I got. According to the latest Reports I received, The Samsung Galaxy S II I9100/I9100G won't be getting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update which has been announced on the Google I/O 2012.
The Galaxy S II won't taste the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean due to Hardware limitations,Taking in account the following reasons :
- Low screen resolution 800 x 480 - 1280 x 720p recommended resolution.
- Dual-core Processor - Quad-core recommended.
- Device won't be Smooth with Jelly Bean and TocuhWiz running together.
These reasons may prevent Samsung from Updating the Galaxy S II to Jelly Bean, the same thing happened with the Galaxy S I9000 when samsung announced it won't be able to Update the device to ICS 4.0.3 because of hardware limitations and the users won't be able to run ICS smoothly on their devices.
As for me... i'll be waiting for XDA to deliver us the unofficial Jelly Bean update just like what they did with the ICS for the Samsung Galaxy S one.
SGS2 won't be getting Jelly Bean 4.1 [Hardware limitations] (UPDATED)

sry but galaxy nexus uses a dual core processor same as sgs2
ReplyDeleteThe Galaxy S2 screen resolution of 800 x 480 is believed to be too low for Jelly Bean and quad core processors are preferred for the software, and another thing that would cause problems for the handset is that it wouldn’t run as smoothly with the TouchWiz Android overlay running simultaneously with Jelly Bean.
ReplyDeleteThis is a similar situation to what occurred last year with Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy S I9000, as the company announced the handset was not getting the upgrade because of hardware limitations, and incompatibility with other software on the handset. The smartphone manufacturer is expected to announce compatibility with Jelly Bean in due course, but currently the only devices defiantly getting it are the Galaxy Nexus, and the Galaxy S3.
This makes you think that Samsung and Google are trying to phase out older handsets to persuade consumers to upgrade to newer models, but this is likely not to go down to well considering many may have just got hold of handsets such as the Galaxy S2.
The situation with ICS is not the same. ICS was a significant departure from Gingerbread whereas, Jelly Beans tweaks ICS to improve efficiency. The only thing really new are on device encription and Google Now. Since the performance of Nexus improves with Jelly Beans, I do not see any problem for S2. Resolution wont really be an issue since android is designed to be flexible with resolutions.
ReplyDeleteFortunately for us the official update is coming to Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note by the end of the year... here check out the update:
