When it comes to mobile chips, Huawei is dead serious to design its own gear. And while we did see some of their devices being delayed because they used the current quad-core K3V2, that won’t stop the company from pursuing chip designs in the future. Quite the contrary, Huawei is already working on the successor, which will be unveiled at some point in the second half of this year. Dubbed HiSilicon K3V3, it will be based on the more powerful Cortex-A15 ARM architecture rather than Cortex-A9.
We also expect a faster GPU to come in tandem with the new CPU, but that part wasn’t confirmed. Then again, we know what NVIDIA’s up to and it only makes sense to make something comparable — otherwise you don’t get to compete in the big boys’ league which Huawei wants to play in. Can’t wait to see the first device(s) using the HiSilicon K3V3…
