The Samsung Galaxy S4, its predecessor the Galaxy S3 and the current Galaxy Note 2 will all be upgraded to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, according to a leaked list of device update information.
The tip comes from one of SamMobile’s ‘insider’ sources and not only does it outline which Samsung Galaxy devices will be updated to the forthcoming 5.0 Android build, but it also shows which older models will be upgraded to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Reportedly, the devices which will be bumped up to 4.2.2 will not be updated further at a later date, this is their final upgrade.
The devices which will come up to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for their last update include:
- Samsung Galaxy Grand
- Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
- Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini
- Samsung Galaxy Beam
- Samsung Galaxy Express
- Samsung Galaxy S Advance
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Premier
- Samsung Galaxy Note
- Samsung Galaxy Young
- Samsung Galaxy Fame
- Samsung Galaxy X Cover 2
Some of those have had a very good run, while others are only relatively recent releases, suggesting that this might be something of a purge of Samsung’s somewhat over-expansive product line-up.
Could the company be reducing its portfolio ahead of a more focused and cohesive range in the coming months and years?
The devices coming up to Android 5.0, said to be called Key Lime Pie (KLP), include:
- Samsung Galaxy S3
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy Note 2
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
The report stresses that these are preliminary lists and could still change before Samsung pushes the big shiny red button.
Also, being a leak of unverifiable authenticity it could be a load of cobblers anyway.
We’re a little wary of the idea that the Galaxy S3 Mini won’t be updated, amongst others, so will be keeping an eye out for Samsung’s official word on the subject.
