Well Canadian Samsung Galaxy S3 owners, and I know there’s probably a lot of you out there, time to get excited. It sure looks like you’ll be getting some Jelly Bean love starting December 3rd. Which is next Monday! For those wondering, this is Android 4.1 and not the newer version, Android 4.2.1. But it’s still a nice update from Android 4.0.4 – Ice Cream Sandwich. Here’s the official word from Samsung Canada:

Now for the bad news. We don’t know which carrier will be pushing out the update first. Since the Samsung Galaxy S3 is available on just about every Canadian Carrier, including Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Virgin, SaskTel, WIND, Mobilicity, Videotron, and coming too Koodo and MTS soon. Who’s your bet to push the update out first? Probably not Koodo or MTS since they don’t have the device up for sale yet, right?

The update will come with Android 4.1 which features Google Now (a better Siri competitor), Project Butter, Expandable Notifications and more. Not to mention updates to the Touchwiz Nature UX are coming as well. Of course Samsung will include the normal bug fixes as with any new software release. There’s no word yet as to how big the update will be, but you’ll probably need to be connected to Wi-Fi. We all know how the US carriers are with downloading updates, I don’t think the Canadian ones are much different.

Samsung also noted that other Jelly Bean updates are on the way. So perhaps we’ll see updates to the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S2x.

So Jelly Bean updates start next week for the Canadian Galaxy S3. Where are the updates for Verizon, AT&T, and US Cellular Galaxy S3 devices here in the US? Samsung is quickly falling behind, especially since their flagship device is still 2 versions of Android behind. Especially in Canada and on those three carriers I just named.
